A record crowd of more than 850 people walked, bicycled and carpooled to participate in PTPM's 6th community peace portrait at Nomuras Field. The Spring Equinox brought beautiful weather for a gathering of young and old, and people of all political, religious and spiritual persuasions, joining hearts and minds to Imagine Peace On Earth. As the photo was being taken, a single voice within the group spontaneously started the refrain, "All we are saying is give peace a chance," and for several minutes hundreds of people joined in singing the timeless message.

The March 22, 2008 portrait marked the 5th anniversary of the U.S. invasion of Iraq. This year also is the 50th birthday of the peace sign, a symbol originally unveiled in London in 1958 for the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament. It quickly became an international icon and is carved into the hillside at the corner of San Juan and Discovery, nearly the size of a city block, planted with more than 2300 daffodils. The portrait is printed on Peace On Earth greeting cards, along with a selection of smaller photos on the back.

The photos here are a sampling from hundreds that have been contributed by Eric McRae, Jane Champion, Michael Delargaza, Andrew Reding, and Mark Saran. All of Mark Saran's photographs can be seen at his website, www.saranphoto.com. They include section-by-section shots of the crowd (a few are included here), so you might be able to find yourself in a larger image! Special thanks to Carl Nomura and his family for their gracious hospitality in allowing us to use this beautiful site.
